A Day In The Life Of An Intern At Dynamic Events

How do you make the most of an internship in the events world? To shed some light, we spoke to our events intern, Taylor Kyle, who has been working with us at Dynamic Events for the last 6 months as part of her Event Management module in TUD.

Hi Taylor, tell us about how you landed this internship?

"I landed this internship through my event management course at TU Dublin. In third year of my course, we are given the opportunity to go out and experience the event industry first hand through a professional placement. I was lucky to have worked with Dynamic Events in the past and reconnected with them."

Can you tell us about a typical day as an intern in Dynamic Events?

"As an event intern at Dynamic Events no two days are the same, which I think is the most exciting thing about Event Management.

On event days it can be a long day from an early start to a late finish, but that is the joys of being involved in events.

Your typical day in event management begins with all the event team meeting up at the office and briefing the day ahead. Final checks are made to ensure the vans are loaded with the right equipment before hitting the road and heading to the venue.

On arrival at the venue there is a layout plan put in place as to where the activities will be carried out. However, these can change dependent on the size of the group and every venue is different. We do all our set up and carry out the event with the client, then we load it all back into the van and head back to base.

Coming back from an event everyone that has been on the job helps to unload the van and get ready for the next event which could be the very next morning.

During my time in Dynamic Events I have gotten the experience of working with all the departments in the company including operations, marketing, sales and project management! There are some days that I get to spend in the office with the other half of the Dynamic Events team from researching potential venues, doing competitor analysis, creating social media content, even creating blog posts just like this one!

Being an event intern, I have realised that it is very fast-paced industry but I would not have it any other way!"

What are your highlights from your time at Dynamic Events?

"At the beginning of my placement the world was still in lockdown due to the pandemic, and I got to experience the world of virtual events.

Some of my favourite moments working at Dynamic Events would have to be participating in my first virtual event that took place in New York, Dubai, Hong Kong, and Singapore. It was a surreal experience which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Another highlight for me would be being involved with planning the layout of the venue as the team took my opinion on board and would use it in different activities that we did with the end client."

Do you have a favourite event that you helped run?

"There have been many events that have been amazing to be a part of but if I had to pick one it would be the ‘Clash of the Companies’ that took place in the RDS. ‘Clash of the Companies’ was a charity event to raise money to support sick children that attend all Children’s Health Ireland sites – Tallaght, Crumlin Temple Street and Connolly. It was amazing to see many well-known companies coming together for such a worthy cause. My role for the event was crowd control at one the hotspots that the participants had to reach which was fun as I had never experienced this role before."

What advice would you give to anyone trying to make the most of a similar opportunity?

"My advice for anyone who is at the beginning of their placement in the events industry is to get out of your comfort zone. I found this the most nerve wracking yet exciting part of my placement as I got to experience crowd management, setting up and de-rigging events, all crucial factors of an event and how to conduct them in the correct way.

Another piece of advice I would give is to network with other students and interns within the industry. While other people in a similar position to you may seem like competition, they can also be an asset to you.

Finally, I would say to make the most out of your experience and learn from every chance you get throughout your placement."
