How to Plan a Corporate Networking Event in Ireland

Planning a corporate networking event in Ireland? From client receptions and business launches to interactive entertainment and company celebrations, discover practical tips for creating an engaging event that brings people together and encourages meaningful connections.

Define What You Want the Event to Achieve

Before booking a venue or arranging entertainment, decide what the networking event needs to achieve.

You might be bringing clients together, introducing a new product, helping conference delegates meet or giving employees from different departments an opportunity to get to know one another.

Each objective calls for a different approach.

A client reception might need a relaxed setting with plenty of time for conversation. A product launch may require presentations followed by entertainment. A company family day could focus on informal activities that bring colleagues and their families together.

Be clear about who you want to attend, who you want them to meet and what you want them to take away from the event. These decisions should guide the rest of your planning.

Choose a Format That Suits Your Audience

Corporate networking events don't have to follow the traditional drinks reception format. Depending on your objectives, there are several ways to bring people together.

Client Receptions

Drinks receptions are well suited to maintaining relationships with clients, partners and prospective customers. A suitable venue, good catering and informal entertainment give guests time to meet without a packed programme.

Product Launches and Business Celebrations

Launch events combine a business announcement with an opportunity to connect. Presentations can introduce a new product, service or venue, while a reception or interactive activity gives guests time to discuss what they've seen.

Conference Networking Events

Conference delegates often have limited opportunities to meet outside scheduled sessions. A networking reception or shared activity can help attendees connect with people from other organisations.

Corporate Family Days

Family days provide a less formal setting for employees to spend time together. They can be particularly useful for companies with several departments or locations, where colleagues may rarely meet outside work.

Dynamic Events organises corporate family days with activities and entertainment for different age groups.

Use Activities to Help Guests Mix

One challenge at networking events is that people tend to stay with colleagues or contacts they already know.

Interactive activities can help, provided they suit the audience and don't dominate the event.

Some options include:

  • Casino tables: Guests can join a game, meet other players and move between tables throughout the evening.
  • Roaming magicians: Short performances bring small groups together without interrupting the wider event.
  • Team challenges: Group activities can introduce people who wouldn't otherwise have a reason to work together.
  • Live entertainment: Music can contribute to the atmosphere, particularly during arrival or a drinks reception.
  • Family-friendly games: Shared activities can help colleagues and their families interact in a relaxed setting.

Not every event needs organised networking activities. Sometimes the right venue, a well-planned reception and enough time to talk are all that's required.

The important thing is to choose entertainment that supports the event rather than competing with it.

Get the Venue and Running Order Right

A venue might look impressive, but it also needs to work for the type of networking you're planning.

Think about how guests will move through the space. Can people circulate easily? Are there areas where smaller groups can talk? Will guests be able to hear each other over the music?

If the event includes presentations, consider how the room will change between the formal programme and the reception.

Accessibility, catering arrangements and the location of activities should also be considered before confirming the venue.

The running order is equally important.

For a launch event, you might begin with a drinks reception, move into a short presentation and finish with an interactive experience.

For a client networking evening, a more flexible programme may be appropriate.

Avoid filling the schedule with speeches and entertainment. Guests need time to meet, talk and follow up on conversations.

Real Example: Clayton Hotel Cardiff Lane Launch Event

When Clayton Hotel Cardiff Lane launched its new meetings and events centre, Dynamic Events helped organise an evening that combined a business launch with client networking and entertainment.

Guests were welcomed with drinks and canapés, accompanied by live music and roaming performers, including magician Joe Daly and ROBOT-TED.

The evening also featured music from The New Brass Kings.

Following presentations introducing the hotel's new facilities, the event moved into an interactive Casino Night.

Professional gaming tables, chips and trained croupiers gave guests an activity they could enjoy together while continuing to network.

The format worked because each part of the evening served a purpose. The reception allowed guests to meet, the presentations introduced the new facilities, and the casino experience provided entertainment without bringing the networking to an end.

Family Days Can Help Colleagues Connect Too

Networking isn't always about meeting clients or generating business opportunities.

For larger organisations, getting colleagues from different teams together can be just as valuable.

Family days offer an opportunity for employees to spend time with people they might only see occasionally at work.

Dynamic Events organised a family day for Leinster Rugby Club, welcoming more than 200 guests for a programme of activities and entertainment.

The event gave colleagues and their families time to enjoy the day together in an informal setting.

Although a family day serves a different purpose from a client reception, both can help strengthen relationships through shared experiences.

Decide What Support You Need

The level of support required will depend on how much of the event you've already organised.

If you have a venue and programme in place, you may only need entertainment or an activity to help guests interact.

If you're starting from scratch, you may need support with venue sourcing, event planning, suppliers, logistics and on-site management.

Dynamic Events can manage the full event or provide specific experiences, such as a corporate Casino Night, as part of an existing programme.

Measure What Matters

Attendance figures alone won't tell you whether a networking event was successful.

Look at what you originally wanted to achieve.

For a client event, that might mean speaking to key contacts, arranging follow-up meetings or receiving positive feedback.

For an internal event, it could mean bringing colleagues from different teams together and giving them opportunities to interact.

A short post-event survey can help you understand what guests enjoyed and what could be improved.

It's also worth gathering feedback from the people who hosted the event, particularly if they had specific clients, partners or colleagues they wanted to engage with.
