ABP Food Group Multi Location Digital Treasure Hunt

ABP Food Group used a multi location digital treasure hunt to run one shared graduate induction across three offices in Ireland and the UK. No travel required.

Client & Context

ABP Food Group is one of Europe’s largest food processors, with operations across Ireland and the UK. In September 2025, ABP planned its annual Graduate Bootcamp Induction to bring new hires together through a mix of training and team activities.

The original request was for a digital treasure hunt at Cabu by the Lakes in Cavan for their Irish graduates. As planning developed, the ABP team wanted to include two more offices so all graduates could share the experience on the same day.

This event formed a key part of ABP’s onboarding programme, designed to build early connection and engagement among new hires.

Challenges or Goals

ABP wanted one connected activity that allowed graduate teams in Ireland, Northern Ireland and Oswestry to take part together.

The format needed to:

  • Run simultaneously across three locations
  • Create a shared experience without the cost and logistics of travel
  • Support graduate induction with a competitive but social activity

Traditional in-person formats couldn’t deliver on these goals, so a multi location team building format was the natural fit.

Our Approach

We delivered a Classic Digital Treasure Hunt, using location-based challenges to get teams exploring their surroundings. The format included themed rounds on sport, music and history.

All teams joined the same game at the same time. A live leaderboard showed how each location was performing, while a messaging feature added light competition and conversation between sites

This approach mirrors how other international companies have run events like multi city digital treasure hunts to connect dispersed teams effectively.

We ran short virtual briefings on Microsoft Teams for each location to keep the start times aligned. Each event followed the same structure:

  • 15-minute briefing
  • 60-minute treasure hunt
  • 15-minute showback and results

Teams were pre-assigned by ABP, which made logistics straightforward. There was one team in Northern Ireland, four in Oswestry and four in Ireland, with a total of 44 participants.

Outcome & Impact

The activity gave ABP’s graduate cohort a shared experience across three sites without anyone needing to travel. Teams engaged fully with the challenges and used the leaderboard and messaging to connect across locations.

ABP shared a LinkedIn post highlighting the day’s success, describing the induction as “filled with energy, connection and insight” and calling out the geo-tagging creative team challenges as a highlight.

The event also demonstrated how budget friendly team building can still deliver meaningful connection when designed strategically.

Key Takeaway

Multi location digital treasure hunts work well for organisations with dispersed teams. They create one shared experience without the cost or complexity of bringing everyone to a single site. For graduate programmes, this onboarding team building approach builds early team connection in a simple, scalable way.
