Dublin Mountains Challenge In Aid Of Barretstown

The Dublin Mountains Challenge is an annual fundraising hike for our friends in Barretstown. The route follows the picturesque and way-marked Dublin Mountains Way, starting in Sean Walsh Park in Tallaght. Participants have a choice of doing a half the distance route or the full 42k route.

Typically everyone would meet and do the event on the same day however Covid 19 changed all this due to social distancing and bans on mass gatherings. Barretstown usually mark the route for the day but were not able to physically mark the route for the entire summer so people had no way of navigating the route even if they wanted to do it individually. This is where we had the solution.

The Process

Our technology team created the 2 routes within our award winning app. When logging in to the app the participants had a choice of which route to take. Once they chose the route it appeared on a GPS map on the app. The route included a number of hotspots that were location based. When the participants walked to certain points along the route a hotspot was GPS activated and opened on the app. The hotspots included:

• Road Safety Notifications
• Photo Challenges
• Location Based Quizzes
• Areas of Interest
• Phone Signal Warnings
• Information Points

Lucozade sponsored the event so we branded the game with their colours and slogans.

The Result

The fundraiser was a great success. The app successfully guided all participants through their chosen route. All participants had lots of fun and enjoyed the challenge. Barretstown raised funds they would not have been able to raise without our app. Barretstown were so happy with how our app helped their fundraiser we are running another Dublin Mountains Challenge in 2021.
