ESB Connections Event - Online Induction for New Employees

As part of the ESB Brighter Future programme for new graduates, we were asked to design a structure that would move their onboarding online and help new hires feel connected, even while working remotely.

The result was a two-part virtual experience built around connection, collaboration, and ESB’s brand values. It ran entirely over video call, supported by our award-winning app technology.

The Format

We delivered two core events:

• A Connections Event in the summer
• An Induction Event in the autumn

Both were designed to support team bonding, bring graduates together online, and reflect ESB’s internal culture.

To keep things interactive between the two events, we added a self-run weekly kick-off challenge. Once the main sessions ended, we continued the momentum with ongoing social engagement online, hosted through facilitated mini virtual events.

Connections Event

The aim of the Connections Event was to help new employees get to know each other and have some fun together. We created a custom game screen, branded to ESB, and filled it with tailored content.

At the centre of the experience was a light bulb graphic, representing bright ideas and a bright future. Around that, we built in challenges themed around ESB’s brand values. To keep the session light and engaging, we mixed in a variety of fun activities.

This type of experience is a great example of why team building belongs in every induction program.

Induction Event

This was also a custom event, designed in the style of a virtual escape room game.

The Escape Challenge is a problem-solving experience where teams take on a collection of virtual tasks. Over the course of one hour, they work together to solve puzzles, answer riddles, and tackle questions.

Each team starts with a locked phone screen. Their mission is to unlock it by progressing through interactive challenges, earning points along the way. It’s fast, collaborative, and designed to keep teams engaged while reinforcing learning from the programme.

We also included a short video showback, highlighting the best bits from the earlier Connections Event.

The event was such a success that ESB came back and asked us to run it again the following year.
